About Summer Squash

If you started your summer squash inside, wait a little longer to move them outdoors. If not, now is the time to plant them outside.

Happy gardening!

I have no idea what color Iam could you help me I live in Big Piney Wy. I think it is purple But I am not sure..

  2. Emily says:

    Laurie,

From the chart, you have from 1-2 months of frost free day, and your last spring frost is at the beginning of July. I have no idea if you can or how to garden in your area. Perhaps with a greenhouse? I would contact your local extension office. They would know best! http://www.extension.org

  3. Emily says:

    hi,
i live in chapel hill, nc. I believe i would be orange?

  4. Emily says:

Sounds right to me, but since I don’t know your area well I can’t really say. If you watched the video and followed the directions then you can be fairly sure that’s your color!

  5. Ellen Peavey says:

I have started egg plants inside in containers, they are about 24 inches tall. I have had them outside to harden them in the shade. My question is can I put them out in the raised garden bed now or wait until May 15 ? I live in Cartersville, Georgia. It is north west part of the state. Also can I use Natria Insecticidal Soap on the leaves to keep the fleas and inscets from chewing the leaves?

  6. Emily says:

    Ellen,
First, I’d need to know your frost date. Your location gives me a general idea, but since not all cities are listed and I am not familiar with the area, I can’t figure it out very well. Can you go here http://www.mysquarefootgarden.net/color and follow the instructions and let me know your color group? If you are Red or Orange, you can put those eggplants outside. If you are Yellow, it’s safest to wait another week.

I have lost several more of my transplants, yellow leaves then gone. I am using the compost from the Timp Greenwaste in PG. Is it possible that the tea made from this is to hot and burning my plants?

    Keep it up!

  8. emilyrhp says:

Yes, it is possible that the tea is too hot. I’ve never made it, so I can’t offer a lot of advice on this.

  9. Jim Goldsberry says:

    Hi
I’m confused as to the color chart. I’m in zone 9, I live in
Fallbrook, California. We have a long growing season and rarely do we have a frost.

  10. Emily says:

The color chart is for those who have frost dates, and need to know how soon to plant. I am working on developing a system for those who can garden year round. Theoretically, you can plant anything anytime, but realistically certain plants will do better as it heats up and others as it cools off.
