Third Week of February (Spring -11)

My seeds have been sprouting!!! My jalapeno peppers are doing great–at least two seeds from each have sprouted. I do notice a difference in the more expensive seeds. They seem hardier and almost every seed sprouts. I have a bunch of onions that have sprouted. And then I realized that I didn’t need 4 onions, I needed 4 SQUARES of onions, with 9 each. So I hurried and started a bunch more. My dill is doing really well. I am so glad, since it really failed last year. It’s the only herb I started so early–just in case I could give it a better chance by starting with a bigger plant.

I do notice my peat moss pellets growing hairy white mold. I let them dry out a little, and it goes away. I can’t figure out if this is from my soft water, or because the pellets are old/defective.

I also purchased a “classroom greenhouse” that I set in front of my south-facing sliding glass door. I get tons of sun, and it really heats the room up. I’m hoping this will work. So far the plants seem to like it. I may try buying a shop light, and growing half under that.

Greenhouse

I transplanted my biggest peppers, onions, and dill into small pots and 6 packs. I’m sitting them out of the sun for a few days, then I’ll return them to the greenhouse.
