2008 Garden, Fourth Week of April
So I’ve been busy today! I’ve been planting and planting! The squares in white have been planted. I did minimal switching around from my original plan–a few squares were empty, and I decided to fill them with potatoes and onions. I have had a crazy last few weeks what with winning a national championship in hockey and all but i have managed to keep up with my gardening. Just haven’t had much chance to post. 2008 Garden, Third Week of April
Planted a few things outside: Garlic Spinach Peas Lettuce sprouts Growing inside: Cabbage Broccoli Cauliflower Onions (white and yellow) Dill Hot peppers (Anaheim & Jalapeno) Bell peppers Tomatoes (Better boy, Roma, Sweet 100) Basil Lettuce (sprouting in vermiculite) I need to pot or move these, but I’m too lazy. My broccoli is getting big, but some of the leaves are yellowing. Not sure what’s wrong. Tomatoes are growing like CRAZY! I’m so excited. My bell peppers and hot peppers seem to be struggling. Started from seed: Lettuce Growing inside: Cabbage Broccoli Cauliflower Onions (white and yellow) Dill Hot peppers (Anaheim & Jalapeno) Bell peppers Tomatoes (Better boy, Roma, Sweet 100) Basil It snowed this week, so I’m not anxious to transplant outside yet. My tomatoes are growing RAPIDLY–They have gotten bigger than everything else!
Potatoes
Potatoes are a semi-hardy vegetable that grow best in a sunny location. Spring Planting Plant potatoes 3 weeks before the frost date. Since they are a tuber, potatoes grow from “seed potatoes.” Seed potatoes look like regular potatoes, but they have not been treated to prevent sprouting, and they are certified to be disease free. It’s recommended that you purchase only certified seed potatoes, which can be purchased at a home and garden store, or local nursery. Let the potato seeds sprout.
