Alaina’s Square Foot Gardening Plan Update

Location: Northern Louisiana Gardening Year: 2013 Planting By Color group: Red, Navy See my first post here! Okay I have gotten it all completed! My husband was so nice to help me mix all my soil. I have yet to fill in the cinder-blocks because I want to make sure this all works out first. I have provided pictures of everything that is starting to grow. I see promise in all plants except my tomatoes. It seems to be taking them a while to sprout new growth…and the bottom leaves are starting to yellow (picture below). I have researched and … Continue reading

St Louis Square Foot Gardening Plan

Location: St Louis, Missouri Gardening Year: 2103 Planting by Color: Orange/Brown When I was a child, my parents maintained a traditional row garden, so when I finally had a place of my own, I figured I would start a garden myself. When I started thinking about starting my own garden last fall, it resembled the garden I grew up with, albeit on a smaller scale. It would be approximately 8 ft x 12 ft will rows of beans, some tomatoes, peppers and squash, however as I started to investigate urban gardening, I began to see that there were so many … Continue reading

Tennessee Square Foot Garden Plan

Location: Henderson TN Gardening year: 2013 Planting By Color: Orange Thank you for your site, your emails and encouragement to garden. This will be my third year to plant a square foot garden. We have plenty of space and great light but we have lots of deer, rabbits and squirrels so I have to fence my area which made it really small. Here are some pictures from last year:   Last year’s plan: I am in the orange group and ready to start making plans for this years garden. I have made many mistakes but I am learning as I … Continue reading

Omaha First-ever Garden Plan

Location: Omaha, NE Gardening year: 2013 Planting By Color: Yellow/Maroon Greetings, I’m brand new to gardening, and after a lot of research, I thought square foot gardening looked like the most efficient way to do it. I decided to start gardening after my wife became pregnant this winter. All the baby books said to eat tons and tons of veggies, and so I thought this would be a cost-effective and fun way to provide them. My neighborhood community garden offered us a 4×10 plot, and I told my brother in law I would give him 1 row of 4, which … Continue reading

Brenda’s Square Foot Garden

Location: North East Texas Gardening Year: 2013 Planting By Color: Red/Navy I am Brenda and I am a square foot gardener.   I live in a small town in North East Texas.     I have always loved gardening, but raising kids, pursuing a career, 23+ years as a youth camp sponsor for my church, VBS, and life have gotten in the way of my pursuit of the perfect garden spot.   Life is slowing down.  The kids are gone too far away to even make it home on the weekends.   We just moved into a new house with a new yard that needs … Continue reading

Alaina’s Square Foot Gardening Plan

Location: Northern Louisiana Gardening Year: 2013 Planting By Color group: Red, Navy This is my first time trying out a raised garden! I need all the help in this layout that I can get…. I have grown traditional row gardens before, so I am questionable with my typical crops in the square foot garden. For the research I have done throughout this site, and the growth charts for my state agricultural website, as well as tedious video searches on YouTube….I have decided on this: I plan to trellis my tomatoes using the single stem method to add a little control … Continue reading

Trupe Square Foot Gardening Plan

Gardening Year: 2013 Location: Lynchburg, VA Planting by Color: Orange USDA Zone: 7a My name is Tony, Last year, 2012, was the first year my wife and I square foot gardened. We started building them during the season, and had moderate success for getting a late start. The reason we started SFG at all is because the 8″ x 20″ row garden in the back yard would frequently be neglected for a week or two at a time and crops that needed extra loving would get lost to the hot Virginia summer sun. The SFG lots are in the front … Continue reading

Plainfield Illinois Square Foot Gardening Plan

Gardening Year: 2013 Location: Plainfield, IL Planting By Color: Green Hello all.  Last year, even though I got off to a very late start it was my first attempt at SFG.  This year I plan to do things better and get started with a good plan first.  My family is in the SW burbs of Chicago in Plainfield, IL and we have decided to get more involved with gardening. Last year we started off with 2 3 x 6 boxes.  With the late start and us learning, we did a lot of trial and error not to mention we pick … Continue reading

Chicago Suburb Square Foot Garden 2013

Name: Erin Gardening Year: 2013 Location: Bartlett, IL Planting by Color: Green/Maroon As I begin planning my 2013 garden I’ve reflected on what failed last year. Our very warm spring turned into a crazy hot and dry summer; which I believe contributed to a poor yield overall. See my 2012 post here and my 2012 plan I revised per everyone’s helpful comments below: Last year I started peppers, tomatoes,  cabbage and eggplant indoors. The jalapenos and cabbage did very well both indoors and after I transplanted them. However, I had some trouble indoors with may tomato starts. The leaves kept curling up and falling off despite having plenty … Continue reading
