2008 Garden, Second Week of July
The garden is growing. I’ve been harvesting peas, carrots, broccoli, and green beans. I even pulled out a small onion. So darn delicious.
Note: a bunch of my onions are flowering. I finally read up on that–not good news. But they’ll be okay I think. It’s from the varying temps–which has definitely been the case.
Lessons learned: Mel suggests you put a little here, and a little there. I wish now that all my carrots were together, all my green beans, onions, potatoes, etc. I’ve loved having all my peppers and tomatoes in one place. Next time I will plant like things together. On one hand, I guess it risks diseases spreading and ruining an entire crop. On the other, you can fertilize and treat like items without influencing other plants around them. And if they get big, they are fighting each other, not taking over another plant.
