Thanks for all your help. I’m just trying to finish building my garden box and I have no clue how to build a trellis! Could you give some instructions on how you build yours??
I purchased my trellis from squarefootgardening.com. However, they would be cheap to make with 1/2″ aluminum pipe. Theoretically, this is easy but I’ve never done it, so I can’t really say. Just measure how wide and high you want the trellis, and cut the pipe 6″ longer. So, if you want it 4′ wide and 5′ high, add 4+5+5+0.5=14.5′ total. Then, use the tools (found right by the pipe at Home Depot) to bend the corners. Pound a 12″ piece of rebar halfway into the ground where you want the trellis, and slide the pipe on top. I like to give the whole thing a little shove down into the ground, for stability. Then just tie your nylon netting to this.
how do you plant cabbage in a square foot garden
I plant mine one per square. They can get a little big and start crowding the neighbors. I just plant accordingly.
I was thinking of building a SFG, made of cinder blocks. Has anybody else done this? Was there any problems with it?
Can you address building a worm farm/bin? Thanks.
You read my mind–I have a friend who does this type of composting, and I’ve been planning on doing a bunch of composting posts this season. Just watch for it!
What are you using to mark off your square foot sections?
I purchased grids from http://www.squarefootgardening.com or from http://www.homegardenstogo.com. You can build your own from blinds, wood, or even string (if your boxes are wood).
